Industrial Ice & Magic

PHOTOGRAPHER DESCRIBES THE SHOT AND SITUATION

This picture really made itself. I only used available light. What you see here in B&W is exactly what I saw in my mind's eye as I walked down this street. The extreme sub-freezing temperature was actually causing this steam to generate ice crystals that were falling like very fine snow all around this facility.

I'm not one for extensive technical preparation, though I do put considerable thought into composition. This was done handheld with high ISO and slow shutter. It was shot in RAW format with an image stabilizer lens for the initial capture.

In Canon Digital Photo Professional software, I desaturated to B&W, then added contrast before converting from RAW to JPEG
